Keith Field first began repairing jewelry for his father, Eldon Field, as a teenager at Field’s Jewelry. As a young man, Keith saw the need for quality jewelry in the Brunswick area and an opportunity to bring lasting memories into the lives of the people in his community. Keith studied goldsmithing in New York and at Haystack School in Deer Isle, Maine, and received his Graduate Gemologist diploma from the Gemological Institute of America in 1992.
Growing up in Harpswell gave Keith a love for the ocean at an early age, and his passion for the Maine coast inspires many of his classic handmade pieces. Keith frequently employs forging techniques, and uses his hand, hammer and anvil to mold and shape the metals into crisp, one-of-a-kind pieces. Maine tourmaline, pearls, and sapphires are often found in his designs, as well as the implementation of silver.
In the summer of 1995, Keith started Keith Field Goldsmith, a small line of jewelry sold throughout Maine. In October 2002 he bought Field’s Jewelry from his father and combined the two businesses. The Field family has owned and operated jewelry stores in Brunswick since the late 1800s. At our Maine Street location, one can find third, fourth and fifth generations of Field craftsmen perfecting their trade.
Not only has the jewelry within the community changed over the years, but the community itself has grown. What began as a simple idea has now developed into timeless designs that are enjoyed by people throughout the United States. If you happen to be in the midcoast Maine area, we invite you to stop by and browse our store—you might leave with a piece that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
